A Taste of the Tetons

Here are some photos from various outings I have participated in lately. Many of them are from hiking around the mountains close to town, and finally some skiing photos. Like I said in the last post, the skiing is not far off, and sure enough, yesterday was my first day on snow, and what a day it was! It had been lightly snowing in the town for a couple days, but the mountains were completely socked in, yielding the 8-10 inches of fresh powder on Grand Targhee peak that we would come to enjoy. Accessible only via the Teton Pass through Driggs, Idaho, it is not the closest mountain to hike up and ski down, but it certainly has the best early-season snow coverage, and that became clear as soon as we arrived, a solid foot on the groud at Targhee versus an inch or two on the other side of the pass towards town. So after climbing almost 2,600 vertical feet and reaching the 10,000 foot summit, we were able to enjoy a long, fast run full of mid-shin-deep fluff down an open bowl while the snow swirled all around us.
